Unspoken Thoughts

February 2004

Why do we pray?

Why do we pray to God to do everything while we do nothing ourselves?

Why is it that we will pray to God to bless our church, but we always have an excuse for not serving?

Have you ever thought, “God wants me to serve”?

Mark 1:17
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

Isaiah 6:8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

1 Peter 2:21
To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

Why do we pray for the salvation of family and friends, yet we refuse to share Gods word with them?

Have you ever thought, “God wants me to witness”?

Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, also see Acts 8:16; 19:5; Romans 6:3; 1 Cor. 1:13; 10:2 and Gal. 3:27

John 15:27
And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. John 15:26-28

Ezekiel 33:6
But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.'
Ezekiel 33:5-7

Why do we pray for the needs of others when we are physically and financially able to help them?

Have you ever thought, “God wants me to help them”?

James 2:14

What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has not deeds?  Can such faith save him?  (15) Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.  (16) If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical need, what good is it?

Matthew 25:40
"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Why do we pray for those who are hospitalized or unable to leave their homes, but we won’t stop for a visit or even call to give a word of encouragement?

Have you ever thought, “God wants me to visit them”?

Matthew 25:36
I needed
clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

Matthew 25:45
"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

Have you ever thought, “God wants me to be the answer to my own prayers”?

Luke 10:19
I have given you authority
to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:18-20, also 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Matthew 17:20
He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

How much time have you wasted asking God for guidance, while you already had the answer to your prayer? Grow where God has planted you, follow where He leads, God has given us the promise of provision  Matthew 6:28 place your trust in Him. Don’t be as the man in  Matthew 13:22 .

If you haven’t had any of these thoughts, maybe you aren’t in touch with God. Maybe you need to work on building that personal relationship with Him.
