True
Discipleship
Decision:
act
or result of deciding
When we allow Christ into our lives we
make a conscious decision to believe in Him.
There is nothing easier than getting
saved, because it is solely God’s sovereign work—
"Look to Me, and be saved
. . ." (
Isaiah 45:22 )
Whoever
calls on the name…(Acts
2:21)
Whoever
believes… (John
3:36)
However with any decision we still
have the option of changing our minds.
This
is not to say one loses their salvation, one can change their
mind about following Jesus’ example.
Commitment:
pledge
we will do something
When
we make commitments to God we tell Him we will do something.
Anyone
can make a commitment to attend church, teach a class, even
serve on one of the committees churches have. They can commit to
go on a mission project, or to be part of any activities, which
are held. Committed persons hold many of the elected positions
held in churches.
However with any commitment, we
retain the option of changing our minds or placing stipulations
on how, when and where we will serve. Many times we change our
commitment due to our own desire.
Some examples:
The date conflicts with another
event.
Purchases of desired object
prevents monetary commitment.
Decision to do something more
desirable.
Surrender:
give
up oneself or a possession to another
There
can be no negotiated surrender to God; it must be total
surrender giving up all rights to self.
Those who surrender their lives,
finances, time and talent, they become on fire, giving self
totally to God, becoming poured out wine for Him. They become
receptive to His call and begin a life of ministry. They are
receptive to the needs of others and place sharing the gospel at
the head of their priorities; these are the true disciples. They
serve not because someone nominated them, nor for the
recognition they receive.
They serve knowing true
discipleship will involve choices-
(
Luke 14:26 ). "If anyone comes
to Me. . ."
( Matthew
16:24)."If
anyone
wants to come with Me, he must deny himself. . ."
(Mat
19:21) "If
you want to be perfect…”
(Mark
10:28) we
have left everything to follow…
They have come to understand James
2:26
For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith
without works is dead.
They have placed their confidence in
God Himself, not in His blessings? "I am Almighty
God . . ."—El-Shaddai, the All-Powerful God (
Genesis 17:1 )
Where are you in your relationship
with God?
Deciding?
Committed?
Surrendered?
