The James
Ministry
“What
good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has
no deeds? Can
such faith save him? Suppose
a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.
If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep
warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical
needs, what good is it? In
the same way, faith by itself, if not accompanied by action,
is dead.” James 2:14-17
Mission Statement
The mission of the The James
Ministry is to encourage Summit Baptist Church members’
participation in local mission projects through the Sunday
School classes; to help members achieve a Christ-like heart;
who will give of themselves completely, as Christ did, to help
others in need; and, to offer information on local mission
projects and needs submitted to The James Ministry.
James
2:14 – 17
The
objectives of this ministry are:
1.
To encourage
Sunday School class members to become involved in mission
projects
2.
To provide
information and opportunities for participation.
3.
To organize,
coordinate, and publicize these mission opportunities to
Sunday School class’s members.
4.
To be the church that reaches out to the community and lives
up to our motto, ”Sharing Christ’s Love In A Personal
Way”.
History
The James Ministry is a new opportunity,
which developed from the Transformers Class “Honey Do
List” projects where class members helped each other out
with home repairs and maintenance as needed. This ministry
also developed from a heart felt desire to encourage church
members to participate in missions.
Why: The James Ministry, James being the book which
exhorts us to do works.
James 2:14 What good is it, my
brothers, if someone says he has faith, but does not have
works? Can his faith save him?
James 2:15 If a brother or sister is
without clothes and lacks daily food,
James 2:16 and one of you says to
them, "Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well," but
you don't give them what the body needs, what good is it?
James 2:17 In the same way faith, if
it doesn't have works, is dead by itself.
James 2:18 but someone will say,
"You have faith, and I have works." Show me your
faith without works, and I will show you faith from my works.
What The James Ministry does;
The James Ministry performs minor home
repairs and maintenance for the following:
1.Summit Baptist Church members, who are
not capable of doing the work themselves,
2.Non-church members, who are not capable
of doing the work themselves, as a means of providing
evangelistic opportunities in the community,
3.Facilities of Christian ministries not
associated with Summit Baptist Church.
What the James Ministry does not do;
1.Provide funds for materials.
2.Work on rental property.
3.Work on a residence where the homeowner
does not live.
4.Work on a property which will be sold
in the near future.
The James Ministry is administered
by a committee:
Clyde Kraemer, clyde@whereverheleads.org
Clay Breznik, casbreznik@earthlink.net
Denis Roper, roperd1@bellsouth.net
Stephanie Roper, sroper@kennesaw.edu
Ways Summit members can be involved;
1.By volunteering for mission projects.
2.Through prayer for the projects.
3.By sponsoring a resident who may not
have the funds needed to complete the project.
4.By serving in a position of coordinator
for a project.
5.By bringing information about those
with needs.
Why get involved;
Need: Many
single parent and elderly families living in our area are
unable to make the needed repairs to their home. As Christians
we can respond in a variety of ways, ministering to their
physical needs and sharing with them the love of Jesus.
Jesus Said: “Verily
I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the
least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”
(Matthew 25:40 KJV).
The Bible Says: “Pure
religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To
visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to
keep himself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27 KJV).
Who can get involved?
Most
importantly – you.
“If
you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to
do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing,
what happens to God's love? It disappears. And you made it
disappear” (1 John 3:17 Msg).
We need classes to;
1.Help us seek out projects as well as be
involved with the work.
2.Enlist volunteers to pray, assess,
coordinate and involve others.
Cost;
Minimal, time will be the biggest cost
involved.
Time:
Most projects will be one day, some will
be longer, some may need to be stretched out over a span of
weeks-months and involve multiple classes.
Communication of needs;
Referrals can be made to the committee or
through the church office.
A form is available.
Member
or class is aware of a need specific to TJM and
completes Referral form
